TESTS

Members pass tests to qualify for higher performance bikes

BASIC TEST CRITERIA - to ride TTR125 unsupervised

Candidates must :
  • Understand where to find and thefunction of the three basic controls on the bike. (Throttle, Clutch, Brakes)
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of how these controls work. (e.g. pulling the clutch in stops the drive)
  • Know about safety equipment
    • Always wear helmet with chinstrap fastened.
    • Always wear goggles
    • Always wear gloves
    • Always wear Knox body armour or chest shield with kidney belt
    • Use neck roll, elbow and knee guards when needed
    • Always ride with arms and legs covered
    • If available wear motocross riding boots, never trainers
  • Understand pre ride checks - use the word 'BOLTS' to remind of:
    • BRAKES
    • OIL
    • LIGHTS (IF APPLICABLE)
    • TYRES (PRESSURE AND QUALITY)
    • SUSPENSION
  • On a TTR125 the candidate must :
  • Pull away and stop under control - Changing gear to 2nd when appropriate; braking without stalling or skidding.
  • Do a full circle in both directions (figure of 8) under control without putting either foot to the ground.

INTERMEDIATE TEST CRITERIA - to ride a Crosser and for some trips

On a TTR125 the candidate must have passed BASIC test and be able to:
  • Turn the bike around in the width of a road without putting their feet on the ground.
  • Reach a speed of approx. 20mph (i.e. change gear) and stop the bike so the front wheel is between 2 cones - totally under control - without skidding or stalling the bike.
  • Complete a figure of eight without putting their feet on the ground.
  • Ride between point A and point B (15mtr) without putting their feet on the floor in not less than 20 seconds.

MOTOCROSS TEST CRITERIA - to progress to KX250 and for some trips

Candidate must have passed BASIC and INTERMEDIATE tests and be able to complete the following on grass or muddy surfaces on KX125:
  • Pull off from stationary with confidence and control, reaching at least second gear and then stop without skidding or otherwise loosing control.
  • Pull off from stationary with confidence and control, at a significantly higher speed turn round at a cone (tightly) and then return also at higher speed and stop (without progressively slowing down first) at a pre-determined spot without skidding or otherwise loosing control.
  • Complete a small figure of eight tightly round cones with correct body position .
  • Make one out lap, one fast lap and one in lap round the Harrowby 'Course' fully in control, the fast lap in not less 46 seconds.
  • Ride over the 'humps' (nearest feature at Harrowby to a 'Woops') fully in control in not less than 20 seconds.
  • Ride round the features circuit, ending down the 'cut out' and make a small jump on exit, landing on the rear wheel, being fully under control throughout and not touching the walls on either side.
